Sir Henry Cecil (1943-2013)

The sad death of Sir Henry Cecil was a huge loss for me. All those involved in racing will miss him terribly, he was our hero who everyone looked up to and the way he looked after and trained the wonder horse Frankel will never ever be forgotten.

It is though not just about Frankel, he was a truly great trainer and as one of his former stable jockeys Steve Cauthen said, “He had an inane sense about how horses were progressing. He gave them confidence and when the horse was right he wasn't afraid to take on anyone.”

Sir Henry has given us all so many amazing days racing, he was an exceptional man and how marvellous it was that he was able to finish his career with the greatest racehorse any of us will ever get to see.

Having trained 75 Royal Ascot winners it is so sad that he will not be with us next week. There is though a 2 year old filly called Joyeuse, who is Frankel’s half-sister, who I think will run very well. We will all be hoping that she can win for Sir Henry and who knows, Joyeuse could be special too!

Thank you Sir Henry and God bless you.
