Attention Healthcare Professionals!

If you work in the health and wellbeing profession and have taxable income, you're next on HMRC's hit list. The Health & Wellbeing Tax Plan, launched earlier this month, offers another one of their time-limited opportunities to get your tax affairs up to date, whilst offering more desirable repayment options.

Those covered under the new scheme include:
  • Physiotherapists
  • Occupational Therapists
  • Chiropractors
  • Osteopaths
  • Chiropodists
  • Podiatrists
  • Homeopaths
  • Dieticians
  • Nutritional Therapists
  • Reflexologists
  • Acupuncturists
  • Psychologists                     and
  • Speech, Language and Art Therapists
(Please check HMRC.gov.uk for a full list)

Docotrs, Dentists, Nurses and Social Workers, however, were covered by a previous scheme so are not included in the current campaign.

Those covered by the current campaign have until 31st December 2013 to let HMRC know they would like to be included, and until 6th April 2014 to confirm and pay any tax owing. If they fail to contact the Revenue before December 31st, a much closer look will be taken at their tax affairs. By coming forward voluntarily, the professionals will also pay a much lower penalty than if the HMRC has to contact them.

Head of HMRC Campaigns, Marian Wilson, has said:

"I urge health and wellbeing professionals to take advantage of our quick and straightforward way of bringing their tax affairs up to date. Help, advice and support is available.
After the opportunity closes on 6th April, HMRC will use information it holds from third parties and regulatory bodies to identify people who have not paid what they owe. Penalties - or even criminal prosecution - could follow."

The Revenue also have a YouTube video demonstrating tax payers obligations. You can watch it here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hP6xMaiiYw4
