Fortune 500 - The Global 2014 League Table

Wal-Mart, the US retail giant which owns ASDA, now tops the Fortune 500 Global List with income of $473.3bn, topping Shell whose income amounted to $459.6bn. The survey reported that Wal-Mart serves more than 100 million customers in 26 countries every week!

Two Chinese Energy companies Sinopec and China National Petroleum held 3rd and 4th spots. Sinopec, an oil and gas producer, achieved a 6.8% growth with continued expansion in, of all places, Iran.

The US has the most companies at the time of the survey but with the advent of the Chinese presence, that strength is diminishing every year.

The 500 largest companies in the survey had combined revenue of $31.1 trillion, a gain of 2.5% on 2012, whilst profits increased by 27% to nearly $2 trillion.

In the technology sector Samsung was the largest firm taking 13th spot ahead of its rival Apple, who moved up 4 places to 15th.

Other names which we would recognise are:
B.P (6th), Volkswagen (8th), Toyota (9th), and E.ON (18th).

We set out the league table for the top 25 companies below which we hope that on review will be of interest to you.
