Charles Little On...

The Event
I first became involved with the event 19 years ago when I first attended the Awards Evening as a guest of Barclays Bank. I could not help but be impressed at the celebrations of those winners and what it meant to all those concerned. At the time I likened it to an Oscars Evening whereby successful businesses and entrepreneurs assembled at the town’s premier business awards events. The event itself has continued to prosper and new ideas have been developed so as to continually improve on what the “Rising Stars” event stands for.

The Finalists
Well done for putting aside the time to make your entry and congratulations for being short listed. As far as I am concerned everyone here tonight is a winner and for sure there has to be a winner and a highly commended for each category but make no mistake everyone can go home proud of being part of a very successful evening.

The Main Sponsor
Very many thanks to Martin Bonner and Eamonn Hendley and the Bank for being our main sponsor. We are all so grateful to you and hope that you and your guests have a wonderful evening.

The Premier Newspaper Group
Thanks go to The Premier Newspaper Group for their continued support and special thanks to their staff for all their hard work in staging the event.

KSK in the community
One of my many beliefs is that in business “you teach as you were taught”. I was very fortunate to have a tremendous first boss and much of what he taught me I try to replicate in my own office. One of the main points he drilled into me was that “if you make a good living out of a town, always try to give something back”. Certainly I try hard to do so in that I am a Trustee of The Counselling Centre in Bedford; I work closely with The Bedford Arts Society; I am assistant treasurer at St Paul’s Church in Bedford where I worship; I was a founder member of the Bedford Castle and Kimbolton Castle Rotary Clubs; and there is my major involvement in this Business Excellence Awards event which I so enjoy. My senior colleague, Anthony Brice, is now starting a similar pattern as he is a founder member of a new group The Bedford Professionals. So I believe KSK is very much involved in the Bedford community and I hope that we are recognised for being so.

KSK and my staff
There is no doubt that they are the firm’s major asset. I am so very fortunate to have around me a really dedicated team who all support me in their individual ways. I opened the Bedford office of KSK in August 1977 and since that time I have built up a formidable team to compete in the business community. In September we recruited Anna Carey as our media manager to advise us all on our media and online marketing. We are extending the same service to clients.

Our KSK clients
We are so fortunate to have an extremely loyal and trustworthy client base at each of our offices with many professional relationships going back 25 + years. Whilst traditionally based around the SME and personal taxation sectors specialisms’ have developed in the medical, legal distribution, IT and bloodstock sector. With the everyday use of electronic mail so the areas where our clients are based has increased significantly. We now have good client representation in London, St Albans, Leicester Nottingham, Northampton and Cambridge.
